"Does God Exist?" Debate
High-stakes production for a high-stakes debate.
One of the most adrenaline-filled moments of my career so far, without a doubt, was this mega debate on April 4, 2009 between theologian William Lane Craig and atheist Christopher Hitchens, moderated by Hugh Hewitt.
I directed, video engineered, and created the live stream system to support this multi-camera live event.
With over 4,200 watching live on Biola's campus (either in the main room or in one of 5 overflow venues), and another 11,000 watching live online with pay-per-view group viewing at over 120 locations in 30 states and 4 countries, all eyes were on me to ensure the debate went off without a hitch.
This event happened just 1.5 years into my tenure at Biola University, and I hadn't yet had a chance to grow the production technologies of my department (and Biola as a whole) to where they're at today. So nearly all of the video equipment and cabling was dry-hired, and I engineered a video system to support this massive (for me, at that time) audience from scratch.
I'm pleased to say that the event was a resounding success. It was even covered on the front page of the local newspaper the next day.
Years later, the debate continues to attract lots of attention — garnering nearly 5 million views on Biola's YouTube channel to date.
